27003 and 27014 arrive at Glasgow Central with a diverted service from the North due to Glasgow Queen Street being closed for engineering work, 29th August 1976. 27003 was originally D5349 and is one of sixty nine class 27 locomotives built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW) during 1961 and 1962. D5349 entered traffic in July 1961 allocated to Eastfield MPD and would spend all of its career at Eastfield until its demise. Although the class 27 was a later version of the BRCW Sulzer Type 2 it was not as long lived as the earlier class 26 with 27003 being withdrawn after twenty five years service in January 1987 and broken up by MC Metals Glasgow in December 1987. 27014 was built as D5360 in 1962 and was the last vacuum braked only locomotive to receive a classified works repair when it received an Intermediate repair at Derby Works in 1983. It was withdrawn in September 1986 and broken up by Vic Berry at Leicester in October 1987.
