In 1982 Cricklewood MPD had five class 08 shunters (vacuum braked 08603 and 08606 and dual braked 08768, 08902 and 08943) on its allocation for three duties, Cricklewood depot pilot (vacuum braked), Cricklewood carriage sidings pilot (dual braked) and St Pancras station pilot (dual braked). Of the three allocated dual braked class 08’s the regular engine for the St Pancras station pilot duty at this time was 08943 and here it is on the 27th February 1982 about to shunt a set of coaches at St Pancras.

It was originally allocated to the Western Region with spells at Newport Ebbw Junction, Cardiff Canton and Bristol until transferred to the London Midland Region at Willesden in July 1974 moving to Cricklewood around 1976. In July 1988 it was withdrawn for traffic however it became the works shunter at Crewe works and remained on this duty until sold in 2009 to HNRC. It can currently (December 2012) be found as the depot pilot at Central Rivers.
