East Midlands Railways 170924 heads up the Lean Valley approaching Brickyard Lane AOCL, Hucknall working 2W13, 12;25 Nottingham – Worksop, 2nd January 2023. 170924 is a recent addition to the East Midlands Railways fleet and is still in its previous operators (Southern) livery. It is also fitted with Dellner couplers thus making it non standard to East Midlands Railways fleet and has been allocated a temporary unit number in the 1709xx range to denote this. Finally the X in the cab window is a standard method used to denote to train crew that the unit can not couple to another unit. Eventually the unit will be refreshed, re-livered and have a standard BSI coupler fitted and will become 170424, but until this happens it is being used on the “captive” Nottingham – Worksop diagrams.
Unit History
170924 was built by Bombardier at Derby in 2001 as 170424. In 2015 it transferred to Southern, fitted with Dellner couplers and was formed as a four car set 171402 with the addition of the centre car from 170423. It has reverted to its original three car formation on transfer to East Midlands Railways.

East Midlands Railways 170272 heads for Nottingham Eastcroft depot after being replaced on a Lincoln – Leicester service, 28th January 2023,
A rather lacklustre colour image made passable in my opinion by converting to black and white.
Unit History
170272 is one of a batch of four class 170/2 two car units built by Bombardier at Derby in 2002 for East Anglian duties. After a couple of years operated by Transport for Wales on South Wales duties it is a recent addition to the East Midlands Railways fleet and still carries its Transport for Wales base livery.
