Scarborough North Bay Railway diesel hydraulic 4-6-2 1933 Poseidon stands outside the shed, 28th August 2022. The North Bay Railway is a 20 inch gauge miniature railway built in 1931 and runs for almost a mile between Peasholm Park and Scalby Mills in the North Bay area of Scarborough. It opened with one locomotive, 1931 Neptune built by Hudswell Clarke, for a cost of £1000. After the successful first season, it was decided that another locomotive was required, and 1932 Triton was built by Hudswell Clarke for the 1932 season. A third identical locomotive named May Thompson was built in 1933 and was in service initially at the railway in Golden Acre Park in Leeds; and following that line's closure was used at Morecambe, Kilverstone and Great Woburn Safari Park before arriving at Scarborough in December 2006 where it was given the number 1933 and named Poseidon.

A day out with my wife, daughters, son in laws and twin grandsons at Drayton Manor Park and here is the star of the show (according to my 2 ½ year old grandsons) Thomas, 2nd September 2012. If you look carefully you will notice that Thomas’s wheels do not actually make contact with the rails and underneath the exterior body (based on the Billinton E2-Class 0-6-0T locomotives built for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway between 1913 and 1916) is a bogie diesel locomotive. Ah well I don’t suppose my grandsons noticed.
