Locomotive History
01544 is a 4 wheel Diesel Hydraulic locomotive, built in 1977 by Thomas Hill (Works No. 270V) for the Defence Logistics Organisation. Numbered 252 it was originally used for shunting wagons around the Ministry of Defence’s extensive rail network. It is now owned by Harry Needle Railroad Company

Unit History
The first of many Bombardier Turbostars 170101 was delivered in 1998 and operated initially by Midland Main Line on stopping services between London St Pancras and the East Midlands. In 2004, Midland Main Line introduced new class 222 Meridian units, which displaced the Turbostars to Central Trains. Since 2008 170101 has been operated by Arriva Cross Country and is now well over twenty years old.
