This historic building is on the Lincoln Highway (US-30) and located northwest of Watkins, Iowa, It's also referred to as Youngville Station, but now abandoned. It was once a roadside business that included a café, a Skelly gas station and three cabins for travelers to stay in. The cabins are no longer there.

We had lunch at The Bohemian in the Czech Village, Cedar Rapids (Iowa) today. A very neat place, the building is from the late 1800's and is an integration of ethnic and artistic references. The photo shows the "stage area" near the bar where bands perform in the evening.

This 19th-century windmill in Elk Horn, Iowa was imported from Nørre Snede, Denmark in 1976. This small rural town has a Danish heritage and about 43 percent of the residents claim Danish ancestry.

Someone got creative with these pumpkins in Ankeny, Iowa. The eye-catching exhibition that drew my attention seemed
a bit odd considering the sign at the old field entrance: "Keep out, these are not free". There's no place to park anyway, I had to briefly stop in the street to get the photo (out of my car window).

This historic ford, built in the 1920's is on the Middle River and can be found in Pammel State Park near Winterset, Iowa. When the water flow is normal, you can drive across the ford (a concrete pad) which is about 2 car width's wide. It's just to the right in the photo.
