Good grief! This made Explore Front Page! (Thanks for letting me know)
Three different species of ladybird, congregating at the same point. No trickery involved, just a happy finding!
On the weeping silver birch tree in my garden.
10-spot (Adalia decempunctata), 2-spot (Adalia bipunctata) and cream-spot (Calvia 14-guttata), ladybirds.
For Pic a Day group: Theme #4: 'Three'.

This is the first dragonfly I've managed to photograph - it was very obliging. I can't get over the incredible eyes it has! View large for the eyes at their best.
It's a female Common Darter, Sympetrum striolatum.
Handheld, natural light, slight crop.

The weather was lovely this afternoon, so I called in at Kirkby Gravel Pits on my way home from work. I didn't make it beyond the carpark - thanks to loads of damselflies! This one is a male common blue - the first I've managed to approach close enough to photograph.
Handheld, natural light, cropped.

Bizarre looking beetle, approx 6mm long. Her abdomen is so swollen with eggs that her elytra (hard wing case) is unable to completely protect her.
Handheld, natural light, cropped.
