Not much insect-wise in the garden, so had a go at some birch bark. The original (below) looked rather flat, so I fiddled with it a bit in Picnik. I came up with this one and a brighter colour version too... but not sure either are really worth keeping. Kept me occupied on a miserable afternoon, though :-)
PS. My daughter says they look boring...

The colours in this catkin caught my eye - my daughter remarked: "Leopard skin catkin!"

Rainy. I sheltered in the greenhouse and took this pic of the poplar through the water streaming down the roof. Not a good day!

Playing with macro. Close up of a freshly sawn transverse section of oak stump.
The radial rays can be seen and also the vessels running through the xylem, which appear as holes.

HBW! (Even if the bokeh is a bit odd)
The pink spindle berries are opening, revealing orange seeds. Spindle comes into its own in the autumn with these berries - earlier in the year it gets smothered in aphids and looks a bit shabby.
It didn't snow here, unlike in some other parts of the UK, but it was rather cold and cloudy.
