This green and gold dung fly (Scathophaga stercoraria) was on the blossom I was looking at - and then landed on my friend's arm.

The bright spring weather has been replaced today by grey skies and a rather cold stiff breeze. This was taken from within the bird hide at Kirkby Gravel Pits. No idea what species of non-biting midge (chironomid) this is.
Handheld, natural (gloomy) light.

In the garden this afternoon. Not looked for an ID yet (not sure if there's enough to go on in the pic), but any suggestions welcome.

This small hoverfly appeared on the leaf in front of me whilst I was trying to photograph a flea beetle. The flea beetle shots were rubbish, but I like this - mainly for the blue-green background. No idea what type of hoverfly this is - not enough details to work with. It's holding its back leg out horizontally, but you'll have to take my word for it!
Handheld, natural light, some cropping.

I'm not much good at all at identifying flies. This one was on a tree in the garden. It has very long thin legs. The head and thorax can be seen in more detail here.
Handheld, natural light.
