I have enough difficulty with DofF for one ladybird... so proving extra tricky with two, especially when one won't stop writhing from side to side!

Not happy with the background - but I'm sure I'll have plenty more opportunities to improve my ladybird porn collection!

Handheld, natural light.

The female of a pair of 7-spot ladybirds forgets she has a passenger and tries to wedge herself in a crack.

I've had no success photographing hoverflies actually hovering... so I was swift to take advantage of this preoccupied pair.

I'll have to check ID, but think this is a mating pair of spotted craneflies. The female is above - she's recognisable by her abdomen, which tapers to a stylus-like ovipositor (often mistaken for a sting!).

Handheld, natural light. Not brilliant - the male was in the shade below the foliage and kept moving out of focus...

I called in at Kirkby Gravel Pits on my way home from work. This pair of common blues (Polyommatus icarus) wasn't deterred by the windy weather! Focus isn't great, but I like it as a shot, with the sun highlighting the feathery wing margins.

Handheld, natural light.
