After more than 3000 km on the road, starting from Germany, we reached Norway's famous North Cape in the night of 14/15 July 1988. It is often a rough and stormy place, but we caught the perfect night for enjoying the midnight sun (photo taken around 1 am).

By the way, contrary to common promotion claims, the North Cape is not the northernmost point of Europe (Svalbard is much further north!). Located on the island of Magerøya, it is not the northernmost point of mainland Europe either. It is not even the northernmost point of Magerøya (the Knivskjellodden peninsula is more than 1 km further north)... What it is, though, is (a) the northernmost point of Europe connected to the international road network, and (b), despite all touristic frenzy, an impressive cliff with a spectacular view.

Austerdalsisen, an outlet glacier of the eastern Svartisen ice cap in Nordland county, Norway. Since 1988 (when I took the photo), the glacier has retreated somewhat due to climate change.
