Rare is the round barn in any state, but rarer yet is the octagon shaped barn. This one I photographed on 09-11-2003 is just south of the Minnesota border outside of Burr Oak, Iowa. Built in the 1880’s and listed on the nation Register of Historic Places it had a modified hip roof and was 50 feet in diameter. I will be visiting some round barns in Eastern Iowa this coming weekend on the annual Iowa Barn Tour. Sadly the Burr Oak barn has now been gone for almost 10 years. Glad I looked to my left on Iowa Highway 52 on that day now 21 years ago. 1405
