March is Women’s History Month—a time to honor the achievements, creativity, and impact of women across all fields, including photography. At Flickr, we’re celebrating the incredible women behind the lens who capture the world through their unique perspectives. This week, we’re highlighting the talented photographer, Adelheid Smitt.
We invite you to check out the album curated by Adelheid and read more about her journey in photography.

"Are you taking a glammer shot of my grain elevator?" a voice from behind me asked. I turned around to find a smiling man standing behind me.
"Yes, I am. Is it really your grain elevator?" I asked. It was.
The man introduced himself as Rob Cogdill, second generation owner-operator of the grain elevator. He told me that they were at capacity right now. A train track ran right past the elevator so I asked if that is how he distributed the grain he purchases. It isn't. All of his grain is sold locally to ethanol plants and chicken feed manufacturers in the area. This led to an interesting discussion of commodities markets and grain futures. Rob explained that at one point some Wall Street investors got the idea of buying up a bunch of elevators to harness economies of scale and transform the industry. It didn't work. What the investors discovered is that the industry was already so efficient that there was little benefit to increased scale.
After ten minutes or so, Rob returned to his office and I ran back to the camper to grab a different lens. When I returned to the scene I soon heard another voice behind me asking what I was shooting. This time it was Greg. Greg owns the business with the Lincoln Highway mural on the side. After chatting a while, he guided me to a third mural a block or two away that had been painted by the local 4-H club, and suggested a couple other places in town I might find photo worthy. Thanks, Greg.

#MacroMondaysOuttake
#Socket
This is another of three options for this week's MM "Socket" theme. As mentioned, I didn't upload this on Monday because I wasn't sure if these connection pins on the extra grip of my old Oly E-M5 (Mark I) were the socket or if the counterpart on the camera is the socket (I'd rather say it's the latter because it is somewhat recessed).
I've photographed this part before, for our "Inside Electronics" theme from July 2018, with almost the exact same POV (but a slightly different focus point) but not as close. This time, I'd added the NISI 49mm close-up lens to the 60mm macro. I own the Raynox DCR-250 but early on in using it, it got inseparably "married" to a step-up ring (or is it a step-down ring? I keep confusing that). Since the NISI lens has a slightly higher magnification (and isn't too expensive, either), I recently added it to my macro equipment, and I'm extra careful with not screwing it on too tightly.
Again, the two LED lamps I used to illuminate the scene from the left and right created an eye effect on the shiny metal, and the shape of the pins reminded me of little golden ghosts, hence the title (Ghost in the Machine is also the only Police album that isn't in my collection).
Happy Mittwochsmakro, and happy Hump Day, everyone :)
