A.k.a. Barasingha ("twelve-horned" in Hindi). The Eastern subspecies is found only in Assam. Young males carry an orangish antler. Mature stags have 10 to 14 tines on their antlers.

Kaziranga (UNESCO World Heritage Site) has the world's largest population of Barasingga (862 as of 2022). A cattle egret is seen in the foreground.
