"The Blue Max," starring George Peppard as Bruno Stachel, was released by 20th Century-Fox in 1966. Based on the 1964 novel by Jack D. Hunter, the film is generally considered to be the World War I aerial combat drama of all time. Though the 1971 cult film "Von Richthofen and Brown" by United Artists has a somewhat more fanatical following, it's audience does not quite approach that of "The Blue Max."
