In early 2021, after receiving the Covid vaccine as one of the first working on a Covid ICU, I was loosely planning my first trip to Iceland. Loosely because I was not sure how the pandemic would affect us during that new wave and travel restrictions seemingly changing every hour. Iceland was one of the first countries in Europe to allow fully vaccinated travelers to enter the country without undergoing quarantine, so I thought why not giving it a try. I often hesitated to visit Iceland because I was afraid of being crushed by all the tourist masses, not being able to enjoy the wide beauty of the Island. The pandemic, as odd as it may sound, was the perfect moment to travel to Iceland since there were just a handful of tourists around and most of the otherwise trampled spots were basically empty. Ticket prices weren’t as high as usual, so I booked my flight.
Only mid-March when I was on a photographic journey on Mallorca Island I heard of the recent volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula, although this series of events started way earlier that year. To sum it up, the eruption was a lucky coincidence that occurred when I was just travelling to Iceland for the first time. And what can I say, Iceland didn’t disappoint. On the hike to the volcano site, among many locals and a few other tourists, I was already seeing the smoke rising behind the mountain range covering the sink in which the eruption took place. As we came closer, we we’re already smelling the rather toxic gases, a mixture of BBQ and sulfur.
And then it happened…I saw this huge fire spitting mountain, surrounded by no less than 8-9 other craters which were just aligning on a recently opened fissure. The experience was rather overwhelming. I’ve stood on so many volcanoes, even active ones like Mount Bromo, but nothing prepared me to witness the sheer power of mother nature. Standing right next to lava spitting craters, feeling the heat, hearing the roars from the forces beneath our feet. I will never forget this special day, that I can tell for sure!

🇬🇧 Have I ever told you about the magic of America's deserts? They have a magical way of making time stand still. Every nook and cranny tells a story millions of years old. Here, surrounded by silence and sand ️, it's easy to feel small, almost insignificant but it's also as if the immensity of the desert reminds you that we are just an instant in the history of the Earth 🌍. And in that instant, with a simple torch of warm light under the stars 🔥🌠, I feel connected to something much bigger.
Hace unos meses junto a @jlopezruiz.photography , @pacofernandezalmeria y @felipesoutophoto . Siempre un placer compartir aventuras con ellos.

After a little break, I finally processed something new from my archive. Here, the impressive view of the mount Pelvoux captured during a misty day. I miss Western Alps. Can't wait to return there for some shooting, I don't know, but I have a special connection with these mountains
