Maldon is a town on the Blackwater estuary in Essex that is steeped in history, with settlements in the area dating back to the Middle Bronze Age 3500 years ago, and the importance of the Crouch and Blackwater especially in terms of saltmaking is evident back to 500BC.
Salt is still important to the town today with the Maldon Salt Company founded in 1882 upholding the proud tradition of saltmaking along the Essex coast.
Towards the end of the first Millennium, Maldon was on the frontline in the battle against the Vikings with the famous Battle of Maldon taking place in 991AD.
Today the nearest to a battle Maldon sees is the world famous Maldon Mud Race, a mad but quintessentially British event which attracts around 300 entrants and 20,000 visitors every year.
The town itself is full of character with its local shops, many tucked down little alleys, complemented by major national retailers but if you are fit to drop after your shop, you can relax in what seems a different world down on Hythe Quay amongst the traditional Thames sailing barges. Or stroll a little further along to Promenade Park, perfect for a family day out.

Little Baddow Hall in the village of Little Baddow, Essex! This beautiful timber-framed hall/manor house, dates back to at least the 14th-15th century, and stands directly opposite the parish church. There is a PYO fruit farm just up the lane behing the hall, and the Victoria Plums looked amazing when we walked past today!

We are fortunate enough to be able to walk along Fenn Creek on a regular basis as it takes us about five minutes to walk to the beginning of the creek from our house. It's walking along Fenn Creek from Woodham Fen that we see lizards, shield bugs, butterflies (including skippers and Marbled Whites), slow worms and the occasional fox!
