Lovely to find this Porcelain Fungus in the woods at Felbrigg Hall today! Porcelain Fungus is common and widespread in the UK where Beech trees grow. They grow on tree trunks and fallen branches of dead Beech trees, or on dead branches in living Beech trees, often high up in large tufts. Porcelain Fungus has a translucent white or ivory domed cap which flattens as it ages. The cap is covered with mucous slime. Once this is washed off and the stem removed the cap is edible. The gills are white. Porcelain Fungus can grow to measure 8cm tall and 8cm across. It can be seen from July to October.
