The Brown Heath Robberfly is a smallish robberfly with ringed legs. It can be seen in warm, open fields such as grasslands and heaths where there is dry, sandy soil from June to September, peaking in August. It is widespread and locally common on heathlands and coastal dunes of southern Britain, also on dry chalk downland in some areas. Adults The prey is mostly flies but can include small moths, bugs and aphids. The larvae are presumed to develop as predators in light soils.
