This is the Roman Pool at the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California. This is one of the first things you will see when you take the tour of the estate. Everything around is made of genuine marble, so the security would not allow anyone to touch the columns. I took this sometime after nine in the morning, where I was able to get some great end-of-summer morning light.
This pool was seen briefly in "Spartacus," directed by Stanley Kubrick. It was used as an establishing shot when Marcus Licinius Crassius (Lawrence Olivier) returned to his estate from Rome.
