While on my lunch break Friday afternoon, I saw this mural on the front of MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art, on Grand Avenue. The building was shaded from the sun by the large California Plaza tower, which gave me a better advantage of capturing this mural. The tall building in the background is the Omni Hotel.

After returning to Grand Park from MOCA, I tried again to get one of the pink blossoms in a way where the backlight from the hazy afternoon sun made a more interesting effect than if I had used the sunlight as a key source. I used my macro setting here, waiting until the wind died down a bit so I could properly capture the blossom. To anyone here who shoots macro shots of flowers and plants, you probably are aware of how exaggerated the movements of the plants are from just the slightest breeze when trying to render them in a tight close shot. I was lucky in that I got this after only three other tries.

The rain soon stopped, the clouds slowly broke off, revealing the yellow sun rising in the southeast, behind City Hall. It was still cold when I got this shot. I had just bought my morning cup of coffee and was about to go inside to work when I saw this. I decided to grab a few shots. This one worked out the best.

Today, at the Civic Center Station, with City Hall in the background, there was a press conference where the mayor and other city councilmen and women, along with business owners, were talking about their push to get the 2014 Olympics in Los Angeles. Considering that it was a qualified success back in 1984, Los Angeles wants to play host again.

Mayor Eric Garcetti did his part to make the push to bring back the Olympics to L.A. for a third time. He also pointed out that there will be a second NFL team, which will be great. Los Angeles has gone too long without a football franchise; now it may have two again. The George Lucas Museum will also find its home in Los Angeles, rather than in Marin County. If all goes well with these proposals, Los Angeles stands to look good economically in the near future.
