If you wanna see deer go to Springbrook Prairie in Naperville. Its rare that you go there without seeing at least one. For a change, this guy didn't see me :-). he was still a little ways off, and I had my 400mm attached to the 5D, so it was a little short, but I like the way the evening sunlight caught this fellow.

I have seen many shots of this car on flickr, and had to find it while up in Door COunty. Trouble was we found it on the way to scout our Sunday sunrise location, so not much light, I tried a long exposure on our way back to the hotel for the night, but at 9.30 it was tough, especially using Josh's blackberry to provide some light on the car for manual focusing.
In the end I admitted defeat and left it for the next day. This was essencially our last shoot of the trip as we shot it on the way back from our sunrise shoot location, as luck would have it though, the sky was still reasonable and the sunlight was hitting the car on the side we wanted it, so I finally got my own shot of the De Soto!

Sorry about the title! Our journey to get shots of these Michigan Masters of Light started at around 4.30am in the morning. It was a 3 hour drive around Lake Michigan and through Indiana to get to the lighthouses, this one being Saint Joseph's. Four of us carpooled and surprisingly not much sleeping was done on the way there, instead much studying of the book "Masters of Light" was read and read again. Fantastic book if you either enjoy photography, fine art of Lighthouses, or any combination thereof!
This trip was part of a day shoot with Willard Clay and Hank Erdmann. Two fantastic landscape photographers, regardless of whether you've heard of them, you've probably seen their images, especially Will's in one of his books or maybe you've marked off a date on one of his calendars, they sell across the US and the UK, maybe Europe also, I'm not sure. Its always a real privilege shooting with them and chatting too them.
This was shot handheld with the 5DmarkII and 70-200L f4 IS, not so much through choice, but because I snapped my Gitzo Carbon Fiber tripod earlier in the day! The tripod snapping didn't worry me so much as I knew it would be covered under warranty, I was more concerned that the only battery I had for the 5DmarkII would undergo extra stress as a result of me using image stabilization on the lens much more, all was fine though, plus I had the 50D. As a result of the tripod failure this was shot with me laying down on the ice, I'm glad I had cold weather gear on!
