Ham Wall and Shapwick are adjacent nature reserves on the Avalon Marshes of the Somerset Levels. Together they make a great birdwatching site at any time of year, but especially in winter when they are the setting for a spectacular Starling murmuration.

This winter an estimated half a million Starlings may be seen in the air at dawn and dusk, often swirling around in tight balls.
Both reserves were created from old peat workings. Ham Wall is now a mature and thriving wetland comprising of extensive
reedbeds and open water, grassland and woodland. Shapwick consists of open water fringed with reedbeds, wide ditches, fens, damp woodland and wildflower meadows.
