Former Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge and Restaurant located at 2725 West International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach,FL. The motor lodge is currently branded as a LaQuinta Inn, while the former HJ restaurant is currently occupied by a Winghouse Bar and Grill. The motor lodge has been tastefully updated and was a great example of how an older HJ property can be successful with the right ownership and continued maintenance. There were some renovations around the property such as stucco covering portions of the exteriors of the rooms and a light coating around the perimeter of the buildings which were all connected by covered exterior walkways. The gate lodge was "squared off" and covered with stucco in the mid to late 1990s but the interior of the building was luckily spared of a dropped ceiling. A slight addition was added to the gate lodge in the early 2000s but the interior still remains mostly intact. The restaurant has been drastically remodeled both inside and out leaving only the roof-line to be the main holdover from its days as a HoJo. After dropping the HJ name the restaurant was remodeled and reopened as a Shoney's which closed by the early 2000s at which point its current occupant opened in the space. The motor lodge likely held onto the HJ affiliation for a few years after its adjoining restaurant dropped its affiliation from the chain.
