It is a gloomy day in Southwest Detroit and all is quiet at CSX's Rougemere Yard. On the locomotive track, CSX 1301 (an NRE 3GS21B) rests between assignments alongside a variety of GE products and SD40 rebuilds.

A pair of EMD's momentarily pause above Waterman Street as night falls over the heavily industrialized south side of Detroit. This train closed our brief tour of Detroit, as we vetoed the idea of walking around with cameras and tripods under the cover of darkness in a notoriously rough town. As a result, this is the product of one of the slowest hand held exposures that I've attempted. It's a different world out there...

In the modern world of railroading, aging equipment is almost constantly disappearing. Here, a pair of Nickel Plate signals still stand guard over the Ft. Wayne line in Arcadia, Ohio (Lima line to the far right). Just out of frame, a pair of 'vaders' wait to replace these old school signals. Like everyone has been saying, 'shoot em' while you can!'
