Canadian Pacific TH31, the Hamilton yard job, gives Montreal-bound stack train no. 142 a push up the 'mountain' towards Waterdown, ON. This operation is almost a daily occurrence now and crews have the manoeuvre down to a science. Nonetheless, listening to the scanner chatter is rather entertaining.

Twenty minutes after sunset, Canadian Pacific's Chicago to Montreal stack train no. 142 is seen passing by a farm house on a gloomy spring evening in Flamborough, Ontario.

Having biked to this location from my house (about a quarter mile down the road) I managed to beat the train with less than a minute to spare. This didn't leave me with enough time to set up a tripod but with a frenetic guess at my exposure and steady hands I was able to save the shot.

CP train no. 247 is on the move again after getting caught by the hotbox detector at Flamboro. In a mile or two the train will turn onto the Galt Subdivision at Guelph Junction, for the rest of the journey to Sudbury.

Five days into Spring, mother nature shows us otherwise as evidenced by this icy scene at Flamborough, Ontario. Although the ice-covered trees made for a photogenic scene, they have also caused power outages since late last night.

From high atop the hill, SOO 6027 is seen passing the historic Hamilton Brick Works with Canadian Pacific train no. 246 as they set off their steel in Kinnear Yard. In all of my years photographing trains in Hamilton, this angle has evaded me - in fact, I didn't even know it existed. Surprisingly, though, this angle is quite accessible. However all you need is a train - thankfully CP played ball.
