It was a classic situation of rolling the dice with moody late August skies and by the time we got to Potter so had the storm. Of course, neither John Ryan or I could complain about shooting in the rain. Here, a southbound KCS train is seen leaning into the curve at Potter as heavy storm clouds roll over the Ouachita Mountains. By the time I got back to the car I was soaked head to toe: part from wading through shoulder tall weeds and part from standing in the rain. Was it worth it? You bet it was.

Amongst the stillness of the Ouachita National Forest are ancient pines, gentle rivers and the Kansas City Southern. On a gorgeous Sunday morning in Rich Mountain, Arkansas this bucolic scene was abruptly disrupted by a southbound hotshot as it thundered down the line. Of course, us railfans couldn't be happier with the passage of this handsome pair of Belles. But man o' man, those 70ACe's have horns that'll wake the dead.
