After the festivities have wrapped up and under the setting sun, Canadian Pacific 40B (the Canada 150 Train) prepares to make a reverse move into Aberdeen Yard on the north end of town. CP exemplified that, even in 2017, railroads still have a magic about them.

Canadian Pacific 40B descends the mountain grade into Hamilton with a gorgeous train celebrating Canada's 150th birthday. At this particular vantage point, many other railfans snapped photos of this train's memorable run down the Hamilton Subdivision.

With the sun shining and the birds singing, it is a gorgeous August morning as Canadian Pacific train no. 40B races along the Belleville Subdivision at Cherrywood. Fresh out of Toronto yard, the train will make good time across Eastern Ontario before changing crews at Smiths Falls and crossing into Quebec for their next show in Montreal.
Stephen Host and I chased the train 190 rail-miles east to Smiths Falls before calling it a day. Despite being out late playing rock n' roll the previous night and running on less than 2 hours of sleep, it was an exhilarating chase that was well worth the early morning. Thanks to everyone who kept us west-enders "in the know" on our chase from Toronto to Smiths Falls!

Making good time across Eastern Ontario, Canadian Pacific train no. 40B wastes no time as it completes a quick crew change at Smiths Falls, ON before proceeding east to Montreal. With serendipitous timing, 40B pulled into Smiths Falls just as an Ottawa-bound VIA train rolled through with one of their funky Canada 150 units shoving on the rear. Seeing two generations of passenger locomotives celebrating Canada's heritage was quite special.
