Vacant space, never occupied (3,204 square feet)
648 Grassfield Parkway, Suite 3, Cahoon Commons, Chesapeake, VA
If you wanna see an example of the effects of the Great Recession in the late 2000s, look no further than the strip of smaller storefronts in Cahoon Commons. It was built in 2007 juuuuust as the Recession began to take off, and to this day a total of ten spaces have never been occupied, such as this one in the photo with its' unpainted drywall and exposed foundation. This strip of stores actually did have quite a few national tenants for about a decade, but over the last few years they started pulling out one-by-one, presumably due to high rent costs. That leaves them with Bon Secours and two alcohol-related businesses, plus the smaller strip of businesses more visibly placed beside Walmart. It was amazing to see what a wasteland this turned out to be!
