This theater opened in September 1991 as the Surf-n-Sand Movies 8, then operated by R/C. Regal took over operations in 1998, closed the theater in January 2001, then R/C took over operations again later in 2001 until it closed again in January 2008. It reopened on May 20th, 2011 as Beach Movie Bistro, then reopened as Beach Cinema Alehouse on July 20th, 2017.

Lifted capacity limits allowed Norfolk's Naro theater to reopen a few days ago, and now the Beach Cinema Alehouse near the Virginia Beach oceanfront has followed suit! This place has been shut down since March 18th last year, and by January it was announced the lease had ended and the closure was permanent, but luckily the owners signed a new lease recently and they're back in business for good. I came here on their first reopened Saturday night to see The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and was surprised at how relatively quiet the place was. I guess it's gonna take some time for people to realize they're up and running again but I feel like with the tourist season coming up they'll be fine.
