Barnes & Noble is one of only three noteworthy businesses left at Richland Mall, and most likely the only one that has an actual pulse. It's my understanding that they're on a separate lease from the mall itself so the mall property owners can't force them out, though one has to wonder what the appeal is of continuing to operate here. It has gone mostly untouched since its' 1997 opening, with the usual Barnes & Noble décor and a horizontal layout, though it is not two stories like I believed it was at first. If the smaller format Virginia Beach Town Center store model is their future, then I feel like it'd make more sense for them to relocate into a smaller space elsewhere in Columbia. Still, it was neat to take a look at this place and document it while it's still operating. They could realistically pull out at any given time, after all!
