Opened in fall 2003; originally Ukrop's (September 20th, 1977-2003)

The Fountain Square Big Lots in Richmond began its' life as a Ukrop's supermarket, and remained one until abruptly closing 2003; my guess is that they gave the store the axe due to the opening of a new, bigger location in The Shoppes at CrossRidge later that year, which is just a few miles away. Whatever the case may be it didn't take long for Big Lots to get their hands on this old space, and while this did open during an era when Big Lots wasn't huge on building out the spaces they took over it does appear that a fair amount of work was done to the salesfloor. This makes sense since Ukrop's would've had separately built-out spaces for meat, deli/bakery, and dairy, so what we're left with is a fairly nondescript looking Big Lots salesfloor of white walls, white tile flooring, and a drop ceiling. There are a few odd pockets of space that appear to date back to the Ukrop's days (the brickwork here in the entryway is a definite old feature as well), but for the most part it's just Big Lots' bland 2000s aesthetic and nothing more.
