Today unexpectedly ended up being one where I visited two former Ukrop's in Midlothian. I'd just been to the building on Hull Street currently housing a Big Lots, and afterwards I drove north to Midlothian Turnpike where Bed Bath & Beyond occupies their original building in this part of town. I had no intention on going here today until I pulled up Facebook this morning at McDonald's. It was there where I saw multiple posts across retail groups about Bed Bath & Beyond filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with the plan being to liquidate their stores starting Wednesday. Knowing this, I decided to make this visit today to document this location while it exists in this normal state and lacking any "store closing" signage across the salesfloor. The store wasn't busy at all minus a few people milling around, who I assumed weren't aware of the store's fate at all since otherwise they'd wait until the liquidation starts before shopping here! Let's consider it the calm before the storm...
From here, there are at least four other locations that I'll have to document in the upcoming weeks: Newport News, Virginia Beach, the other RVA location in Short Pump, and Fredericksburg. Perhaps I'll try and get to the Charlottesville store as well if time permits.
