It was a great run. I walked in two different worlds. In the daytime I had the fur salons. At night I travelled the Goth, latex, BDS&M whatever you want to label it, world. Not every night because that would not be possible. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays worked for me with the occasional Wednesday thrown in for good measure once and awhile. I'd "cat nap" in the afternoon for 30 minutes at my office. Leave the office at 6:00 and go home to sleep. Ten O'Clock I'd awake and get dressed. Leather, latex, whatever. I made it at JB's so I wore it out in public. I didn't drink much at the clubs. I'd order a bottle of Champagne and have half a glass while sharing it with the table. This is how you stay alert in the fashion business. You simply look like you are drinking and basically don't. Order something everyone loves and watch it be consumed. I'd take in two clubs a night sometimes three. One would be an after hours club. By 4 AM I was heading home for breakfast, a short cat nap and off to the gym and my office for a shower and to get ready for the day.
Over the years I drew hundreds of sketches on what I saw in the clubs. It has helped me so to define where I will take my next venture. Never be afraid to take a walk on the wild side. Those who may judge you simply don't understand and they probably never will. To be a true fashion designer you must put yourself in the shoes of your client. Walk their walk, see what they see and ask a million questions. Where did you get that? Who made it? What did it cost? Would you give up a week of lunches just to buy it (a Berry Gordy question he always asked at Motown)?

I call a "presser" with the club and underground newspapers. Nothing big, as I don't want the established media at the gathering as I am no one's entertainment I figure "maybe 8 to 10 people." We paper off the design part of the Soho offices as I didn't want any pictures taken of what I was doing or had done. I go back to the fur salon and pull this outfit, one of the first I had ever made for JB, and get dressed in it. I'm ready to answer all questions.

I find a nice chair that is high enough to see the 30 plus people who have come. Some photographers and even editors of these small club newspapers. Most of the club papers are Goth and Rubber (Latex) type. A Fetish paper or three are in the crowd as well. I tell my story unrehearsed.
