Nikon FE with Fuji Superia 200 negative film. Nikkor 15mm f3.5 AI lens.

One of the natural uses of a very wide and distortion free lens is architecture. This is inside one of our lecture halls. Normally, it would be next to impossible to get the whole room in one frame.

No distortion correction, no cropping, this is the full 35mm frame as shot.

Nikon FE with Kodak Portra 160 negative film. Nikkor 15mm f3.5 AI.

This was a very magical fairy-tale sort of a scene so I thought I would bring that out a little by doing a little more to draw you in to the scene.

Nikon FE with Kodak Ektar 100 negative film. The primary flash was triggered by a flash remote cable off of the FE's hotshoe. Secondary flash (when used) was optically slaved. Primary and secondary flashes are a SB600 and a SB26.

Exposure and flash settings were previewed using the D80.

Lens used was the Nikkor 15mm f3.5.

These were shot to help our friend who is the owner of these cabins.

Nikon FE. Fuji Velvia 100

Another thing the 15mm lets you do is put things together in a frame. I know there are a million modern lenses that go this wide now but in its day the 15mm was it. And it does give you ruler straight lines.

Nikon D80 and 50mm f1.4 AF-D lens.

The 15mm f3.5 AI is one of Nikon's truly great lenses. They currently make wider lenses than this but all of these have much more distortion. This lens is almost entirely distortion-free.

Also, as a classic manual focus Nikon Nikkor lens it is exquisitely built. Just mounting and unmounting it is a pleasure. It is also quite a bit smaller than the modern 14mm AF lens and 14-24mm zoom.

Best of all it just looks very "right".

The Nikon FE is one of Nikon's greatest ever cameras. Right up there with the F4 in my eyes. Especially if you replace the built-in screen with a matte "B" type screen. I have the brighter screen from the FE2 in my FE. This fits fine and only requires a +1/2 stop exposure compensation.
