Mamiya M645 Pro. Kodak Portra 800.
From the first and last weekly father son trip. Connor and I traveled down to a place in southwest Qatar near the Saudi border where a large unusually shaped dune sometimes known as the "toothing" dune is located.
Mae culpa. I screwed up the processing on these scans (the previously posted versions). What can I say, I'm out of practice. It's such a difference I felt it only fair to those who faved or made comments to repost.
I think some of you may have been happy but the colour on some of the ones I've posted so far just hasn't sat right with me. Also, the overall gamma and graininess... But I just didn't know what I was doing wrong.

This is why I consider Portra 800 the queen of films. I always hate it at the point when I'm developing it and scanning it. Portra 800 (unlike the revised 160 and 400 -- I guess 800 was perfect so they left it alone) is on a thin flimsy base that loves to bow emulsion side out. It's a pain to put on reels and it's a pain to hold flat for scanning. But when I start to work on the files and I see those colours. Oh man! Always delicious.
Took a trip out after getting my desert truck fixed and legalised. It was meant to be a celebratory trip but as it happened God had other plans. Lost all the oil from the engine less than a mile after getting on the highway for home. Thankfully not whilst in this lonely desert place.
The thing that struck me as I clambered around (this was meant to be a scouting trip for a "real" shot I had planned for the end of the week) was the absolute peace and stillness. Qatar is usually a noisy place. The silence and light were breathtaking.
