As usual! I was looking for the Wood Duck at San Luis Creek but I found a raccoon searching for food in the creek. He kept coming closer and closer to me . After 20 shots, I decided to let him enjoy his day! It was a beautiful warm day at Avila Beach!!!!

Elephant Seal pup at the Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery 2018. The Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery spreads over 6 miles of shoreline around Point Piedras Blancas on the central coast of California. The viewing areas are located 5 miles north of Hearst Castle State Historical Monument in San Simeon, 1.5 miles south of Point Piedras Blancas.

Firefighter's working hard to knock this fire down!!!! Lot's of questions about Fire retardant being bad for nature. Here is some info -- Borate salts used in the past to fight wildfires have been found to sterilize the soil and be toxic to animals so are now prohibited. Newer retardants use ammonium sulfate or ammonium polyphosphate with attapulgite clay thickener or diammonium phosphate with a guar gum derivative thickener. These are not only less toxic but act as fertilizers to help the regrowth of plants after the fire. Fire retardants often contain wetting agents, preservatives and rust inhibitors and are colored red with ferric oxide or fugitive color to mark where they have been dropped.
