Taking photos of Casey by the Christmas decorations is sort of an annual tradition for me. Casey loves to curl up on the cable box because it's warm. Since the stockings are hung conveniently right above it, it makes for a great portrait location. I light him by firing a Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT through a 6x8" softbox at camera left (E-TTL), sort of my go-to lighting set up.

This is why it is important to have a pet-friendly lens and flash mounted on your camera in an easy-to-retrieve location at all times. Casey decided he would pose in front of the Christmas tree like a picture perfect postcard, so I ran and grabbed my camera, which had my 50mm lens and flash mounted on it for moments like this, and luckily, he allowed me to fire away a few shots before he walked away.

Santa brought me some colored flash gels for Christmas! This is too much fun. Since no one in my family likes their picture taken, I took a photo of Frosty instead. I fired a Canon 600EX-RT on E-TTL through a small softbox at camera left as the master, and a Yongnuo 560 III as a slave with a green colored gel (I later changed it to red in Photoshop) at 1/128 power straight back at the wall.

Another photo with my fun new flash gel set. I was surprised I was able to get Casey to actually pose for a few shots!
