The 280 SL was the last and strongest version of the W113-Series, which was introduced in March 1963 with the 230 SL.
The 250SL followed in Dec. 1966.
The W113 could turn quickly into a roadster: it had a removable coupé roof, the so called Pagode-roof.
The W113 project was a creation of Friedrich Geiger in cooperation with Karl Wilbert and Bela Barenyi. Development started already in Oct. 1958.
