This was the very first Opel Olympia version. The Olympia was presented in February 1935. Production began two months later. It was designed by Karl Stief, and was influenced by American car design standards.
The name Olympia was chosen on the occasion of the 1936 Olympic games which were held in Berlin.
What made the Olympia so special was that is was the first mass-produced production car with a monocoque all-metal body.
In November 1936 followed an off-spring: the Opel Kadett which had almost the same body but with a smaller engine.
This first Olympia version was only available as a 2-door saloon and as a convertible.
