The successful French coureur Jean-Pierre Wimille (1908-1949) decided to create a sportive car after WWII which would carry his own name. Philippe Charbonneaux (1917-1998) made the sketches for it.
The first prototype had a Citroën engine, the later ones a Ford V8.
The car body was made by Faget-Fernet. It had a central positioned engine and a central placed steering wheel. The hole design looked very futuristic and was his time far ahead.
Some sources speak about a production of four prototypes, others of eight.
The project was cancelled after the tragic death of Jean-Pierre Wimille on Jan. 28, 1949.
At least three Wimille prototypes still exist today.
2158 cc 8 cylinder V-shaped Ford engine.

This was the new avant-garde Post-War Studebaker, designed by Raymond Loewy (1893-1986) and his team. Virgil M. Exner (1909-1973) had done great contributions at this styling just before he temporary quit Loewy studios in 1947.
The Commander had almost the same body. It was introduced in Autumn 1946, just a little more than one year after the war.
About this car design lots of jokes were made as if it was not known which direction the car was driving. Nevertheless the design was very much appreciated.
