I am finally getting to my daytime New Mexico images. I visited New Mexico back in May, mainly to photograph the night sky, and I published
those night images almost 6 months ago (there's even
one of Shiprock from the back side at night – my favourite night image of the trip ). Then, however, I had the catastrophic loss of most of my images, including all the work I did on these daytime shots. Luckily, I still had the original RAW files, but I just couldn't bare to look at them again until just recently. For a trip where I mostly shot at night and slept during the day, I'm really happy with these daytime images.
I spent most of one day shooting the famous Shiprock in NW New Mexico, just as a storm was rolling in on it. Sometimes the clouds were streaming over the top of Shiprock, sometimes they covered it altogether, sometimes they created a dramatic backdrop, which is why this is just the first of a number of images I will post from that day. I hope I won't exhaust your patience with multiple images of this beautiful place.
Shiprock is the is the erosional remnant of the throat of an extinct volcano. It stands nearly 1,600 feet high and can be seen for miles around. It is sacred to the Navajo nation.
