And now for something COMPLTELY different! I used to do a lot of night photography, but have not done it in a while and I certainly haven't posted many night images lately. This image was shot in Arizona after my storm chasing trip in May last year.

The glow on the horizon is from the town of Oak Creek, just south of Sedona.

If you'd like, take a look at my other night images.

My last image I'm going to post from Alberta is the very first one I took. I arrived in Edmonton around 8:30pm. I'd noticed there was some Aurora activity promised, so Len and I went out shooting. Me in my city shoes. This was the very first image I shot - it wasn't a huge show of lights and it pretty much died down after that, but I was happy to have seen this much.

Another view of this lovely site.

This is probably the last night shot I'll post from my New Mexico trip last month. Anyone who has done night photography knows how tough it is - you are pushing your camera to its extreme, there are certainly some challenges with processing, but the hardest part (for me) is the utter exhaustion from lack of sleep. On this trip we were out 5 nights. We photographed often in the afternoons, too, and many of the sites involved a lot of walking (sometimes stumbling around) in the dark (my tracker said I'd walked 70kms on the trip). We photographed this ruin on the last night, when I was past exhausted. But once you get out there, it's magical to be under really dark skies and it's magical see the same skies the ancient Anaszi could see.

I've been having some (well, lots of) computer problems, so I will have to leave the processing of the daytime images a little longer. But, rest assured, they're coming.

If you'd like, take a look at my other night images.

An Anasazi ruin, New Mexico. The Anasazi (now generally called the Ancestral Puebloans) flourished in the American Southwest from about 200 to 1300, leaving many amazing ancient ruins on that beautiful landscape. It was quite special to be at this ruin in the deep quiet of the night and under some very dark skies.

Another hoodoo formation at the Valley of Dreams in Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness. This image is less dramatic than the other night images I have posted from New Mexico, but I like it a lot. It has a quiet beauty, I think.
