It's been a while since I posted a new image here on Flickr, but that's because I haven't been shooting very much.... except... for a recent trip to Tuscany, of which this is the first product.
I went mainly for a workshop with the amazing Rohan Reilly (if you don't know his work, you really should take a look at it). I knew we were going to photograph this terrazzo in Livorno on the workshop, but I had a few days before we met up to myself so I went there to practice. I stayed at a beautiful hotel right on the waterfront (just out of view to the left) and loved having the time to photograph this gorgeous (but VERY challenging) place a couple of times. Thanks to Rohan for amazing feedback on images, especially on this one, where his crop really made the image.
This place is a challenge to photograph, no question. And it's doubly challenging in the rain (when it looks best). Imagine me trying to compose and then shift my lens, all the while holding an umbrella over the works to protect it from the rain, but allowing water to drip down my own back. I felt like one of those clowns on a unicycle trying to balance a tiny umbrella in the air. : )
If you're wondering about the odd focal length and f-stop, it's because I was shooting with my tilt-shift lens, which is manual, and doesn't communicate with the camera.

This stunning scene is, I believe, a family grave or memorial, as it is placed right in the middle of a farmer's field.

This gorgeous avenue of cypress trees actually marks the entrance to a farmhouse where you stay overnight. A beautiful spot. We also managed to shoot it in some lovely morning mist, but I'm going to post this more traditional shot first.
