This is the second in a series of infrared images of Mayan ruins in Yucatan and Campeche, shot on a trip there in February. If you want to see more of the images, take a look at my Mexico album or my Infrared album. This image was taken from a different vantage point than the first image in the series - also from the Xpuhil II ruin - that one was taken up on top of the structure.

Most of the ruins you'll see in this series are not open to the public. I was lucky enough to see them with the help of the wonderful Balta. Most people know the large ruins at Uxmal, Calakmul or Chichen Itza but those aren’t the only Mayan ruins on the Yucatan peninsula. Ruins from smaller settlements and satellite cities are scattered all over. If you know where they are (or, in my case, if you’re lucky enough to know someone who knows where they are) or if you find a local guide to show you you can see these amazing places alone in the jungle, partially overgrown, echoes of their former glory. It’s hard to express the feeling of seeing one of these places – it’s a combination of awe and amazement and wonder. What an amazing privilege to have been able to see them.

Last month I went out to the Prairies (Alberta and Saskatchewan) to shoot some winter images. There wasn't as much snow as I hoped there would be, but it was a still a great trip. I was particularly in search of minimalist images and this is the first of a small series of them. I hope you enjoy.

If you'd like see more images from my trips to the Canadian Prairies, take a look at my Prairies album. There are also more high key images in my High Key album.

I was lucky enough to tag along on a wonderful night photography trip with Wayne Pinkston at the beginning of May (we were also joined by Eric Gail and Chris Wray). One of my 'must sees' was Shiprock. It is sacred to the Navajo people and it's not hard to see why. At 1,583 feet, it stands out from the flat landscape around it and can be seen for miles. I know the usual composition from this side is with the lava fin in the immediate foreground, but I loved this worn track, so that's what I chose to focus on.

If you'd like, take a look at my other night images.

My last image I'm going to post from Alberta is the very first one I took. I arrived in Edmonton around 8:30pm. I'd noticed there was some Aurora activity promised, so Len and I went out shooting. Me in my city shoes. This was the very first image I shot - it wasn't a huge show of lights and it pretty much died down after that, but I was happy to have seen this much.

If you'd like, take a look at my other night images.
