Last summer, I travelled out to Prince Edward County, about 2 1/2 hours east of Toronto, to visit with a dear friend. I had never been out to The County (as it's known locally), though it has become a very fashionable weekend trip from Toronto. As she was showing me around, my friend pointed out some potential photo projects - she knows my passion (addiction?) - and the one that stood out to me was the fantastic old barns all over the county. Some are abandoned, but many are still functional buildings, part of working farms. They combine beautiful form and utilitarian function, just like some of my other favourite subjects and I immediately invited myself back for a winter trip. That trip took place a few weekends ago and what a great trip it was! I got a day and a half of good cloud cover and lots (lots!) of wonderful subjects to shoot. Even then, I only covered about half of the county, so I will be back for more, probably next winter. Here's the first image in a series of (mostly) Barns of the County.

This dog seemed quite perturbed when I stopped to photograph this stable(and the large barn next to it). He barked and barked and charged towards the fence to see if he could scare me away. He seemed more bark than bite, so I valiantly stayed for a few shots. : )
I am leaving tomorrow on my first trip out of Ontario in nearly two years, so I'll take a little break in posting images from this series while I'm away. I promise to pick it up again when I get back.

One afternoon on my trip to Prince Edward County, I had a driver - my friend Lindsay. It was great to be able to devote myself entirely to looking for subjects instead of dividing my attention between that and driving. When we first drove by this house I said "No, it's too scary. There's something about the windows and doors that makes me think of The Scream", but when we drove by it on the way back, Lindsay insisted we stop and that I at least try a few shots here. And I'm glad she did.
