This elevator (ex. Sask Pool No. 521) has an interesting history. The original elevator at Golburn was built in 1925, but burned down between 1932 and 1933. Wooden grain elevators are very susceptible to fire because grain dust is highly flammable and many end their lives this way. I think I remember reading somewhere that a wooden grain elevator in the early 20th century had an average life span of only 11 years. The elevator was rebuilt in 1933, closed in 1971 and then moved to Sylvania in 1974. It was finally closed in 1998 and is now privately owned.

Sylvania, Saskatchewan, Canada.

This is the last image from my winter trip to Saskatchewan. As always, thank you so much for your likes and, especially, for your kind comments. I hope you haven't minded seeing winter images in my feed right into May!

As with all of my trips over the last five years or so, I wrote a blog post about this trip. If you'd like to see some behind the scene shots and read some stories about the trip I took to shoot these images, take a look.

This was my seventh trip to the Prairies in winter. If you'd like to see images from all those trips, take a look at my Canadian Prairies in Winter album. I have been photographing the Canadian Prairies in one or two trips a year since 2013. If you'd like to see all those images, take a look at my Canadian Prairies album, as well.

The last of the four images from that fantastic field of bales. Definitely my favourite site of the trip and probably my favourite image of the trip.

Saskatchewan, Canada.

The elevator at Gronlid was originally in 1928 by the Searle Grain Company (you can see the faded S on the facade). It was bought by Federal Grain in 1967 and by the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in 1972. It was closed in 1983.

Gronlid, Saskatchewan, Canada.

A cold and blustery day in the wide-open beauty of the Saskatchewan Prairies.

I photographed Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Church on my first trip to the Prairies in 2013 and, now, almost 10 years later on this most recent trip.

Near Maryville, Saskatchewan, Canada.

As with all of my trips over the last five years or so, I wrote a blog post about this trip. If you'd like to see some behind the scene shots and read some stories about the trip I took to shoot these images, take a look.
