As we say adieu to winter, one last time the snow falls softly in Yosemite.
Thanks to all who joined my presentation. For those who missed it here is the link. You may have to jack up your audio and listen in a quiet environment. Sorry about that. (air pods will not work)

One evening in February of 1973 Galen Rowell an avid mountaineer and rock climber was driving around Yosemite valley when he saw a magical glow on the east buttress of El Capitan. Galen was beyond excited as he saw the waterfall turn to the color of burning embers. He raced to get a better vantage point ignoring the speed limit. Then he jumped out of his car, vaulted over a fence and ran to shoot the scene before him. A park ranger who witnessed this looked at what Galen was trying to do and instead of giving him a citation calmly asked him if he needed anything. "My tripod" Galen yelled back, "it's on the back seat". The park ranger brought the tripod to Galen. Guess who got the very first print of "firefalls" image that Galen made that day? Little did Galen know as he picked up his camera that his shot would inspire millions to do the same. I am one of them, and I tried hard not to speed, or vault over fences or to repeat the picture that made this waterfall the wonder it is today. Hope you enjoy the result.

We had a beautiful winter storm come through recently. After the storm cleared El Cap was bathed in gold revealing the true treasure of the Sierra. (my camera has decided to time travel to the past even though this image was taken only a few days back).
Yosemite Winter Workshop 2025 is now launched.
