There is a reason why this beach is one of the most popular in the world for nature photographers. The combination of black sand and ice, the warm colors of the sky contrasted against the deep blues of the water, the static ice blocks amongst the raging waves, so much drama.

As you know I do not usually do composites. When I visited Iceland with Cath Simard I found her work very unique and creative. I had shot the aurora and the Ice cave on two separate occasions. This image has been put together by Cath and reminds me that the only limitations for creativity are those that we set for ourselves.
The aurora shot is a 15s exposure at f5 ISO 1600. The settings you see displayed for the image on flickr are for the Ice cave shot which was made mid day and is a self portrait.

"In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous"
Aristotle

When I begin to feel lonely its because I have not invested the time to be alone in nature.

The smell of the ocean, the taste of salt on my lips, the cool misty spray across my face, the cries of sea gulls circling above and the visual drama of the gigantic crashing waves. All my senses inundated in the experience which leaves me feeling truly present in the moment.
