palazzo delle poste, palermo, sicily 1928-1934.
architect: angiolo mazzoni (1894-1979).
the office of angiolo mazzoni produced an incredible number of public monuments across italy during the 1920's and 30's - eclectic in style and only some of them as insistingly and repulsively fascist as he himself proved to be : mazzoni never abandoned fascism and spent his postwar career in south america.
the central post office in palermo, however, is one such building, repellent to the point of attraction and, like the law courts, inescapable for its sheer size.
